New ideas, new Friends, new community, beautiful Mt Hood site...imagine the possibilities! Lots of free time to enjoy nature and each other. Come to Willamette Quarterly Meeting for a chance to meet new and old Friends; practice deep listening to your inner light, each other and the earth; hear about what Meetings are doing to strengthen community and share your own stories. Come away energized with a renewed sense of community, connection to the earth and your inner light.
Message from Liz Bruno, Children's Program Coordinator:
Our theme is Spring Up. We will explore and play with nature's sounds, colors, and shapes that spring up around us, as well as what springs up in us. Understanding land and body as home, we'll practice the art of "noticing what we notice." The program follows an understanding that a willingness to attend to and notice is a foundation of care, relationship, and stewardship. The children's program will meet as an all-ages group, ages 1 - 11, and divide into activity groups as needed. Activities include: nature music composition, color matching, nature cartooning, water play, sand play, nature mandalas, and so on. We'll also hear a few stories using Montessori methods (the parable of the mustard seed, Klickitat stories of Mount Hood), as a way to build our curiosity and listening.

Willamette Quarterly Meeting (WQM), established in 1958 as Oregon Quarterly Meeting, has as its constituent groups the Monthly Meetings, Preparative Meetings and Worship Groups in Oregon and SW Washington, as well as Boise Valley Monthly Meeting (Idaho) and interested persons in the region isolated from any established Friends group. WQM is one of three Quarterly Meetings within North Pacific Yearly Meeting (NPYM). A history of WQM is available from the WQM Clerk.
Purposes of Quarterly Meeting
The purposes of WQM are:
- to nurture the spiritual life of Friends of all ages and to provide fellowship within the Quarter;
- to encourage inter-visitation among the Monthly Meetings, Worship Groups, Preparatory Meetings and Isolated Friends;
- to share State of Society Reports from the constituent groups at the Spring meeting;
- to provide an ex-officio member to NPYM Outreach and Visitation Committee; and an ex-officio member to NPYM Friend-in-Residence Committee;
- to hear concerns from Meetings or individuals, forwarding those approved to the Clerk of the Annual Session and/or the appropriate NPYM standing committee Clerk;
- to nurture new gatherings of Friends; to consider requests for Monthly Meeting status from Preparative Meetings and Worship Groups; to consider requests from Monthly Meetings to be laid down or united with another Meeting; and
- to provide a forum for committees to meet as needed during Quarterly Meetings.
